TODAY’S JIHADISTS: YESTERDAY’S ANARCHISTS?
by Terry Heath, [IMAGE]2005

Terry Heath] On June 28, 1914 a Serbian anarchist named Gavrilo Princip fired two gunshots toward a motorcade carrying the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the royal heir to the Austrian-Hungary throne, and within six weeks of that political assassination the countries of central Europe were engaged in a war against each other that would last four years and forfeit millions of lives, all because a few extremists were willing to do anything to stop the practice of structured government. Today the western countries finds themselves in a similar position the world encountered ninety years ago as we have to engage in perpetual battle with Muslim Jihad extremists who possess this same hatred for centralized secular rule and are willing to do everything possible to destroy our way of life so they can install their own rigid brand of Islam faith all across this planet.

It was between the years 1860 to 1914 that at least a dozen global political leaders, including United States President William McKinley, were assassinated by self-proclaimed anarchists who wanted to prevent the nations of the world to properly rule their own countries as the planet began shifting from an agrarian society to an industrial form of economic growth and millions of people started moving to major cities while the ruling royal families of Europe were being replaced by constitutional government.

As we approach the sixth year of the 21st Century the governments of the west face a new threat of their sovereignty that could potentially destroy their ability to rule their citizens if it continues to grow as a force. But this time it is not anarchists out to stop centralized government but Muslim religious fanatics who wish to destroy secular rule and install their brand of Islam to all non-believers. These terrorists practice an extreme violent version of the Islam religion and wish to destroy western influence in the Middle East and beyond at all costs and are willing to forfeit their very lives in the furtherance of that cause. But this time these extremists aren’t just setting their sights at killing world figures to further their own political agendas but instead are taking their aim at ordinary citizens so they can put the fear into everyone’s lives.

The assassination of President McKinley was committed by Leon Czolgosz, a self-proclaimed anarchist and follower of the famed radical Emma Goldman, who stated his goal for killing the American leader was because of the U.S. invasion and subsequent occupation of the Philippines during the 1898 Spanish-American War and battles against the Filipino rebels that resulted in that occupation. Other murders of world leaders by self-proclaimed anarchists also took place in the later half of the 19th Century as those extremists wanted to stop all forms of civilized government. Today’s Jihad terrorists have resumed that form of terror but have instead turned from killing world leaders to aiming their mayhem and destruction at anonymous government bureaucrats and the civilian populace. Why? Because today’s leaders are obviously better protected than a century earlier so there’s little chance of a sole bomber taking out a nation’s chief executive so the public must face their wrath.

But even if those Jihad terrorists want to create as much destruction that they can inflict it’s apparent there are some obvious contradictions between these two extremist entities as a self-proclaimed anarchist wants a world without any type of a structured government while these present-day Muslim radicals want all of us to follow the edicts they believe that God revealed in the Koran.

It was an Arab peasant named Muhammad who received the word of God from the angel Gabriel in the 7th Century and within thirty years of that vision his preaching of the Muslim word had spread all across the Middle East. Muslims and Christians then battled for control of Europe and parts of Asia for the next seven hundred years with the Muslims almost conquering most of the known world in the 13th Century until Christianity again began to spread and flourish with the discovery of the western hemisphere and exportation of that religion to the New World.

The planet then went from having a half-dozen colonial European powers controlling political events in 1914 to the end of World War Two when there were just two superpowers, the United States and Soviet Union, battling each other for control of the globe. The use of spreading fear by terrorist organizations against civilized authority began again in the 1970’s by radical groups that found themselves aligned with the political beliefs of the Soviet Union as they battled governments of the west but those acts ended in 1991 with the end of the Cold War and dissolution of that once-mighty Communist power. But the fear that such indiscriminate attacks to the public brings were started again on 09/11/2001 by Muslim Jihad extremists as led by Osama Bin Laden who wants to destroy the United States since we’re now the world’s sole policeman battling tyranny.

Are the Muslim anarchists’ acts of violence against anyone of authority possessing an opposing viewpoint with no regards for whatever collateral damage is done a legitimate part of their extremist view of their faith? They claim it is but mainstream Islamic religious scholars dispute that. And what would be their ultimate goal in these never-ending attacks? To be a nuisance against the western powers until we eventually give up and leave the Middle East?

Are they willing to outlast us to get what they believe are their justifiable religious demands? Definitely. That is one flaw of democracy these Jihad extremists could exploit because they know western politicians must appease their constituents on a regular short-term basis in seeking a speedy and not always best resolution in dealing with volatile enemy attackers. So who has the longer patience for the long run needs for Iraq where our 100,000 plus troops are currently still there as an occupying force? Extremists willing to die for their cause or the short-term attention span American public who expect every foreign problem to be speedily resolved as if it’s an episode of a situation comedy and that solution must occur in a moment’s time. But the Muslim religious beliefs have been in existence for the last 1300 years. They have the resolve that we don’t.

It’s apparent that Islamic radicals who have never participated or chose to accept democracy as their form of government will not make the necessary adjustments to now do so. Russia and its satellite provinces broke up in 1991 with promises of freedom and democracy for their people. Fifteen years have since passed and most of the citizens of those half-dozen Muslim dominated Eurasian countries are still living in abysmal poverty while pining for the good ol’ days when the Soviet-controlled central government took care of them. Yet others believe that a religious rule would solve their problems. You’ve got Muslim rebels in the Russian province of Chechnya currently battling Moscow for autonomy and self-rule in that region and the country once known as Yugoslavia has been in crisis for this last decade as Muslim and Christian provinces in that once-proud country are presently engaged in an uneasy truce toward each other as thousands of NATO soldiers monitor the situation to prevent both sides from resuming their civil war. And now we see that thousands of young Muslim troublemakers that the naïve U.S. media refers to as ‘students’ are committing mayhem all across France because they are allegedly protesting their ‘poor treatment’ by the secular French government but in reality are beginning a long-term plan for an eventual Muslim takeover of that country with the rest of western Europe to follow.

Can the Christian world negotiate with Muslim Jihad anarchists? The current situation in Iraq and other global hotspots doesn’t seem to suggest we can with any sense of finality or reasonable expectation of seeing a positive result of such discussions with those warring tribes. So does the United States have the resolve to win a religious war against those of an another faith that our people don’t understand? That’s still unknown but it’s obvious these Muslim extremists have the resolve to outlast our patience in the Middle East because they are prepared to die to further their cause. What do we have to counter such extremism? World War One was started by a sole anarchist as a political protest and that act resulted in over ten million deaths. What global conflict will these present-day Jihadists ignite in opposition to our continued presence in the Middle East and how many more people in this country and world could die as a result of their perverted religious beliefs?
